Ecumenical Hunger Program

I was first involved with EHP when I was still in junior high, not as a volunteer but as one of the many families that was in need of a little help. Soon thereafter I wanted to show my appreciation and starting volunteering thru my high school years. I feel that the time I spent with EHP made a tremendous impact in my life and made me the person I am today. Thank you so very much for allowing me the opportunity to be a part of such a great organization. A lot of families and myself are very grateful to have you on the community.

I have lived in East Palo Alto over 40 years and have watched the changes to the community but one thing has stayed the same, it's the helping hand of Ecumenical Hunger Program. I volunteered over the holidays giving out food to the needy families. What a wonderful experience to help people put food on their table that otherwise might not have any. The spirit of giving is alsways present from the staff and the volunteers to the families. The food baskets are an exchange not only of food but also of love, kindness and sharing. I can speak personally about that feeling because I have been on both sides of the table. I remember not feeling bad about needing help because kindness was the first thing that was given. What an honor to be a volunteer at Ecumenical Hunger Program where people are truly geing helped.

I was at first a volunteer for holiday food distributions, but I quickly wanted to get more involved when I saw the good EHP was doing in the community. I'm currently a board member for EHP, and am constantly touched when I see the hard work that volunteers and staff put into helping the community.

I first learned about EHP and the work it does through First Congregational Church in Palo Alto, which I discovered was also the first home for what became EHP almost 40 years ago. After volunteering a few times at EHP, I realized what a tremendous impact it has on the lives of families in need. When I was offered the opportunity to join the Board, I was honored to be able to join the team at EHP on a more committed basis. I would encourage anyone and everyone to come down to EHP and see for yourself what great things happen here!

I have been involved with EHP for over a decade and it has changed my life! The work that is done not only touches the lives of disadvantaged families in the community but also makes a tremendous positive impact in the lives of volunteers, donors, staff and board. Once you walk through EHP's doors, expect your life to change forever!
